The Proper Contents in The Parts of Academic Law Essays

The basic structure of academic law essays are similar to other academic essays, which are the parts consisting of the introduction, body, and conclusion. First year university students who are new to law essay writing tasks that are performed in universities and tertiary education level institutions should know the correct and proper contents that should be included in each part of a law essay.

When the students have already gathered all the relevant research materials and finished with their research, it is advisable that they should first write the outline of their law essays. The essay outline is the framework or synopsis of the facts and other information to be included in the essay. The outline would be based on the introduction, body, and conclusion with each part having its own sections and subheadings.

The correct and proper contents in the parts of law essays:

• The introduction would provide the readers with a brief and concise overview of the things to expect in the essay. The introduction would usually consist of the introductory paragraph that generally mentions that various points of law or subtopics that were broken down from the main legal question or main topic of the essay. The introduction also contains the thesis statement, which compactly and clearly explains on how the legal question or problem would be answered or solved.

• The body has the main paragraphs consisting of sections or subtopics that present and discuss the main points of the law that is addressed by the main topic or the legal question. Since points of law such as specific legislation, statutes, legal cases, or court rulings could be complicated and full of legal terminologies, it is preferable to include subheadings in the paragraphs that discuss complicated issues or terminologies. Arguments in the paragraphs should be properly supported with the relevant evidence and other facts that would be for or against the arguments.

• The conclusion summarises the arguments and main points that were argued and discussed in the body. The student should not include or present any new information in the conclusion, but it should just restate the arguments, main points, and answers or solutions that were discussed in the body.
